Israel J. Jacobowitz, M.D. FACS

Dr. Jacobowitz was born in a DP camp in Germany to
Holocaust survivors and immigrated to the US in 1949. He
was raised in Brooklyn, graduated from Brooklyn College
in 1969 and from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine in
1973.
Dr. Jacobowitz received his postgraduate training in
general and cardiothoracic surgery at NYU Medical Center
under the direction of Dr. Frank Spencer. In June 1982,
he returned to Brooklyn and proceeded to build the
cardiac surgical program at Maimonides Medical Center
into one of the finest in N.Y. He served as Chief of
Cardiothoracic Surgery and Co-Director of the Cardiac
Institute. After a brief stay at Lenox Hill Hospital in
N.Y., he returned to Brooklyn in 1998 and quickly
established himself as a leader in beating heart
minimally invasive cardiac surgery. He has participated

the top of the list in the number of procedures
performed with excellent results.
To the nurses, residents, and physicians, he is best

his patients. |
Dr. Mario F. Sabado, M.D.
 |
Dr. Sabado was born and educated in the Philippines and
emigrated to Brooklyn in 1973 to begin his training in
general surgery and subsequently, cardiothoracic
surgery. After a few years as a thoracic and vascular
surgeon at Coney Island Hospital, he joined Dr.
Jacobowitz at Maimonides Medical Center to help build
the program into one of the most successful in New York.
During his tenure at both institutions, he gained
recognition as a teacher of surgery par excellence. In
1996 he joined Dr. Jacobowitz at Lenox Hill Hospital
where he developed an expertise in minimally invasive
heart surgery and complex valve repairs. Dr. Sabado
returned to the Brooklyn area, again joining his friend
and long time colleague, Dr. Jacobowitz to help him
return MMC to its preeminence in cardiac surgery.
In
addition to minimally invasive cardiac surgery, Dr. Sabado has a large experience with valve repair and
aortic aneurysm surgery. Dr. Sabado brings years of
expertise, and proficiency in all aspects of cardiac,
thoracic, and vascular surgery, as well as a calm
confident demeanor that is comforting to both patients
and staff. |
